MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITION SHOCKED BY SPEAKER’S ACTION

Members of Her Majesty’s Opposition are deeply appalled at the action taken by the Speaker of the House of Representative, Hon. George Mc Guire, at the Sitting of the house today 14th July, 2009. During the debate on a motion to authorize the Minister for Finance to borrow $40,000,000.00 by way of an overdraft facility from local banks, the Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition, Dr. Keith Mitchell was ordered to leave and was removed by the sergeant at arms whilst he was making his contribution towards the debate. When Dr. Mitchell made reference to what he considered to be the politicization of the debushing programme, two members on the Government side without permission of the Speaker, shouted to the Leader of the Opposition to specify where that was taking place. The Leader of the Opposition spontaneously responded saying that it was happening all over the country. At that point the Minister for Finance rose on a point of order, stating that the Leader of the Opposition was speaking directly to members, instead of speaking through the Speaker, inferring that he was in breach of the rule of the House. The Speaker immediately demanded that the Leader of the Opposition respond to the allegation which was made by the Minister for Finance to which the Leader of the Opposition stated that he had no comments to make. The Speaker then ruled that the Leader of the Opposition was in breach of the rules of the House and that he was suspended for the rest of the sitting and ordered the Sergeant at Arms to remove him from the House. In consequence, the other members of the Opposition joined the Leader of the Opposition in leaving the House. Members of the Opposition are of the opinion that the Speaker acted unfairly and unreasonably in the circumstances, as at no time was the Leader of the Opposition acting in a grossly, disorderly manner. Generally in parliamentary proceedings all over the world, members do sometimes speak across the floor to other members. In those circumstances, it is the general practice for the Speaker to ask the member or members to refrain from engaging in such practice. In the present case, no such advice was given to the Leader of the Opposition. Rather, he was immediately suspended for the rest of the sitting by the Speaker. Additionally, it must be noted, that no disciplinary action was taken against the members on the Government side who initiated the exchange of words. Over the last year, members of the opposition have observed that a concerted effort is being made to suppress the views of the opposition. The action by the Speaker today is further confirmation of the emerging trend which threatens democracy in the highest institution of the state. Attached is the audio of what transpired, as the Speaker of the House totally ignored the fact that members of the Government spoke directly to the Opposition Leader without his (the speaker of the house) permission. The Opposition leader entire presenation can be heard on www.nnpnews.com OFFICE OF THE LEADER OF THE OPPOSITION

MEMBERS OF THE OPPOSITION SHOCKED BY SPEAKER’S ACTION
Hi Veronica yes you are so right Mr KCM is not only is not a fit person to be in charge of a country where we have been brought up to respect one another but may be he has acquired that sort of behaviour while he was at HAVARD University in America and he believes that by behaving like a thug also it is my belief that he has no respect for our people by the very way he speaks to us and so that gives him the upper hand and thats why i believes that his party should take him to one side and have a good chat with his as per his behavious and manners,we dont want another uncle gairy talking down to our people.

Keith Mitchell has no class even when he was in power he would talk like if he picking for a fight- whatever the discussion was about. I have watched him from London on MTV- I was horrifed that he was our Prime Minister He is a very sorry loser. Grenada does not need people like him for prime minister or opposition leader. He should go and get a new life.

The Very sore looser is trying to practice the walk in handcuff to go to JAIL because he knows his time is nigh. I have never seen any human being throw tantrums after loosing anything. SHOW ME THE WILL THAT GRENADA BELONGs TO YOU!!!!! Your supporters did not put NDC in power. They got all the jobs and housing materials when you were in power and you still want them to have all the job now. GIVE US A BREAK. They will get something but there are people who deserve work in your time and did not get anything. You are lucky Uncle Tilly has that personality otherwise all your NNPermanent Secretaries should have been gone than remaining there and sabotaging the Government and Uncle Tilly is getting a beating from his supporters for keeping them there. WE NDC SUPPORTERS ARE MAD LIKE HELL SO WE WILL COME IN PARLIAMENT AND KICK YOUR A---- OUT ourselves, KEEP ON THROWING TANTRUMS. WHAT THE HELL WRONG WITH YOU KCM. YOU ARE BEHAVING AS THOUGH YOUR DEMISE IS AUGUST 1ST,EMANCIPATION DAY and maybe your right, and you NNP supporter who is occupying Caliviny Playing field and knocking windows with the community centre, and have more blocks in front of her house than Gravel and Concrete, ask her to move her tail from there, with her NNP syndrome. Brothers and sisters of spice isles it seems that our sour puss brother the one Dr KCM,is still suffering from that massive hangover/shock of loosing the last election and you know what he still has not learned the proper way to conduct himself,he is still of the mentality that he can pull punches with anyone anywhere no matter where and maybe it is about time someone takes this bad mouthed bad mannered man aside and tell him some home truth that not all our people behaves like pigs and it is about time that his fellow oppositions members teach him how to behave and to remind himself of who he is and that he should respect the rule of the speaker of the house and the country,so Mr KCM enough is enough.
