SPEEDZONE HOMECOMING CELEBRATIONS THANK YOU NOTE

SpeedZone Track & Field Club hereby expresses its profound gratitude to all who sponsored, patronized and assisted with the hosting and promotion of its Homecoming Ceremony for Coach Albert Joseph and Kirani James which was held on Saturday, 18th July in celebration of their double gold-medal winnings at the recently held 6th IAAF World Youth Championships. Special thank-you mentions must be made to the dignitaries who attended and spoke; the Grenada Carnival Committee and the Grenada Cultural Foundation for their collaborative efforts; the Gouyave Police Division for security services; the artistes who performed; the Masters of Ceremonies who lead; the media houses and media personalities who assisted; and, last but not least, the sponsors and individuals who gave so generously, including: LIME, Blueprint Communications Grenada, Waggy T Rentals and Sound Company, Grenada Physiotherapy & Pain Relief Centre, Grenada Breweries Limited, Ms. Grace Duncan, WEE FM 93.3/9 and GBN. The celebrations were a tremendous success, and have met all its objectives. A summary total of EC$5,251.52 was collected during the parade, at the gates and at the bar, which will go towards the SpeedZone Track and Field Club’s athletic developmental plans after all related expenses are paid. The SpeedZone Track & Field Club looks forward to the public’s patronage and assistance in all its future ventures as it strives to further develop track and field on the islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique as a whole; and to identify more future track and field scholarship recipients. About SPEEDZONE SpeedZone is an organised, non-profit-making track and field club based in Gouyave, St. John’s, which has been in existence for the last five (5) years but was officially launched in 2007. The main objectives of the club are to: 1. To further develop track and field on the islands of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique as a whole; and 2. To identify more future track and field scholarship recipients; To date, the Club boasts of over forty (40) registered athletes from St. John’s and St. Mark’s, including Kirani James (Double Gold Medalist in the 200M and 400M Sprints of the 6th IAAF World Youth Championships); Joel Redhead (Gold Medalist and Record-Holder in the 200M Sprint at the 2009 Grenada National Senior Championships): and Janel Redhead (Bronze Medalist in the 200M Sprint at the 2008 World Junior Championships). The present certified coaching staff, currently dubbed as “very passionate and dedicated”, originates from Gouyave, St. John’s, and includes: Mr. Jimmy Mathlin (club president, teacher and coach of Happy Hill Secondary School); Mr. Albert Joseph (club vice-president, teacher and coach of St. John’s Roman Catholic School); Mr. Darvin Bowen (club assistant-coach and assistant track and field coach at the Presentation Brothers College); and Mr. Kim Phillip (club assistant-coach and handyman by profession). The other organising and support members of the club include: Mr. Junior Straker (club public relations officer and teacher at St. John’s Christian Secondary School); Ms. Janelle Augustine (club secretary and teacher); Mr. Abriel Patrick (club patron and physical education instructor at the Ministry of Sports); Ms. Carol St. John (club matron and head-teacher of St. John’s Roman Catholic Pre-Primary School); Mr. Marlon Glean (club scholarship advisor and attorney-at-law); Mr. Garvin Taylor Jr. (club health and fitness advisor, lecturer at the T. A. Marryshow Community College and physiotherapist at the Grenada Physiotherapy and Pain-Relief Centre); Calvin Knight (teacher at St. John’s Anglican School); and Ms. Reece Sam (Executive Director of Blueprint Communications Grenada).

Hello spice islanders A big thank you to KIRANI and Albert and others,we greet you on your great homecoming celebration.My fellow spice islanders for too long we have lived in the shadow of our nighbours Cuba,Jamaica,and Trinidad where sport is concern now we are moving up and as the great man said yes we are and yes we can,because we now becoming positive thinkers and so i do hope that our government is also on our side and make good some of their pledges to help take our young sports men and women and in particular our young people to the next level,and by doing so they the government will get something done about the Tanteen playing fields (redevelopement) and also the outer playing fields of that stadium in river roads so that our young people can excel in their choosen fields,we have the talents so lets build on it,so we call upon you the minister of sports to get your fingers out and lend a hand (no more lip service) our people needs you and your government to step up and while we are at it i do hope that an invite goes out to SPEEDZONE and their teams to make an appearance next month during the St Johns Reunion day celebration one love god bless.

I am very happy that Kirani's community and others helped in making this celebration one to be remembered and again, congratulations to Kirani and Albert and others who played a significant role in his development. God Bless
