U.S CHARGE DE AFFAIRES KAREN JO MC ISAAC PAYS COURTESY ...
St. George’s, July 24, 2009 (GIS) - With just a few days left before she departs Grenada, U.S Charge De Affaires Karen Jo Mc Isaac has been paying courtesy calls to government and other officials. Ms. Jo Mac Isaac met Tuesday with Prime Minister Honourable Tillman Thomas, with discussions between the two focusing on issues such as regional security. They agreed that security is of paramount importance to the Caribbean. They also talked about deepening contact between the United States and Grenada and the troubling matter of criminals who are deported from the U.S. to Grenada and other Caribbean countries. Prime Minister Thomas also used the meeting to question whether there are plans in place to simplify the process for obtaining visas for Grenadians wanting to travel to the United States. The outgoing Charge De Affaires explained that one of the biggest problems faced by the U.S. Embassy is that of portable equipment to help simplify the process. “One of the main issues has been the taking of fingerprints,’’ she said. “The equipment to do so is expensive and not portable. There’s no way to get the fingerprint machine here.” Ms. Mc Isaac, who has also met with Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Mitchell, said Grenada has great potential and urged greater national unity. The female American diplomat has been serving here since 2006 and said she enjoyed working with the Government of Grenada. Ms. Jo Mc Isaac is due to leave Grenada for Washington on Saturday. Her replacement will arrive in Grenada in October to take up duties as the new Charge De Affaires.
