A total of 32 soca artistes in Grenada, with the hottest soca tunes for the year, competed against each other at the Victoria Park on Friday July 24, 2009 with a view to making in to the big Soca Monarch Finals scheduled to take place early next month. One of the biggest surprise arising from this event, however, was the omission of veteran soca artiste, Papa Jerry, from the list of finalists. Many persons who attended the event were of the opinion that he had a good night, performed well and should have been included in the final list of artistes. The 15 artistes who satisfied the expectations of the adjudicators for the night are as follows: • Mr. Killa • Randy Isaac • Inspector • Lavaman • Maximillon • Sheldon Douglas • Zingo • Mr. Legs • 4brass • Croqueta • Soca Sterlin • Brother B • Soca Banton • D Hammer • Otis These soca artistes will be clashing on Friday August 07, 2009 at the Queen’s Park National Stadium to try and dethrone reigning soca monarch champions, Luni Sparks and Electrify. The dynamic duo has been champs for two consecutive years and by all indications, they are going all out to make it three years in a row. The Lyons brothers have a number of hot, catchy soca renditions for 2009. The Soca Monarch Finals at the national Stadium begins at 9 PM and the price of admission is only EC$45.00.
