FIVE GRENADIANS FOR PAN AMERICAN JUNIOR CHAMPS  
ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, July 29 – The Grenada Athletics Association (GAA) has selected five athletes for the 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championship in Trinidad, starting this weekend. Leading the Grenada in Trinidad will be the World Youth double gold medallist Kirani James and Rondell Bartholomew. James won the 200m and 400m at the 6th IAAF World Youth Championships in Italy earlier this month while Bartholomew had a personal best of 45.58 behind James at the Junior CARIFTA Games in St. Lucia earlier this year. The team will be completed by Akim Bowen, Josh Charles and Shakir Simmons. Bowen posted a personal best of 10.87 in the 100m in St. Lucia but failed to advance from the preliminaries, Charles reached the semifinals of the 200m after qualifying with 21.94 while Simmons picked up bronze in the shot put event. The 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championship will showcase many of the top international junior athletes, July 31-August 2 in Trinidad and Tobago. Held at Hasley Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad, the Pan Am Junior Athletics Championships are open to athletes age 16 to 19 as of December 31, 2009.
