GRENADA:- Thousands of calypso lovers, from home and abroad, gathered at Carnival City (the National Stadium) last night to take in the final round of the 2009 calypso competition.
Nine calypso artistes performed in front of an appreciative crowd in an attempt to dethrone the reigning calypso king, Biko. From all indications, all ten calypso artistes gave good performances and were well-received by the crowd. At the end, the judges decided that Findlay Jeffery “Scholar” was the best artiste among the group and he was crowned Calypso Monarch for 2009. He was followed by his good friend, Raymond Matthews “Beast”. Both men are well-known for their stinging social/political commentaries.
The results of the judges are as follows:
Scholar 834 points
Beast 819 points
Croquetta 787
Biko 786
Mr. X 767
Smallies 751
Persuader 749
Randy Isaac 746
Teacher Eddie & Rico 733
NEW CALYPSO KING CROWNED
