The Grenada Carnival Committee (GCC) wishes to advise the population of its plans following the postponement of the official Parade of the Bands on Tuesday, August 11th. Activities have been rescheduled for Saturday, August 15th. While the GCC recognizes that parades occurred during the official carnival period, which ended at midnight on Tuesday, there were reduced numbers of participants, and the conditions were unfavorable for adjudication, which therefore did not occur. The GCC is committed to showcasing the talent of all its stakeholders. It is therefore critical that the investment made by the bandleaders and masqueraders be given the platform they deserve in spite of the inclement conditions last Tuesday. After consultation with the Government, it was agreed that a National half holiday will be declared, which will allow for the Parade of the Bands to take place in all parishes on Saturday between the hours of 1 PM and 6:30 PM. The GCC will also host a special end of carnival concert on the Carenage in St. George, which is scheduled to begin immediately following the Parade and end at 10 PM. Through discussions with the Royal Grenada Police Force, vendors set up in public spaces, will be permitted to remain there thru Saturday.
