ST. GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FRIDAY, AUGUST 14th, 2009_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas today welcomed the Logos Hope, with one of the world’s largest floating book exhibitions, to Grenada. The Prime Minister, who cut the ribbon officially launching the opening of the ship and its collection of books to the public, said in addition to the ship’s book collection, the training elements provided by persons from the Logos Hope to the communities, add greater significance. “It is my government’s belief that education provides an opportunity for people to get out of poverty. It is for this reason that we believe the Logos 2 and the Logos Hope, have played and still play a role in stimulating a culture of reading in our society,” he said. The Prime Minister said while gaining secular knowledge was important, the need for spiritual development was equally important. The Prime Minister noted that Grenadians who serve as volunteers on the ship, while in port, are open to a cross cultural experience which helps to increase our ability to understand other peoples and their cultures. “The multi-cultural atmosphere on this ship also speaks to mankind’s desire for a better world, in which we all can live in harmony, despite our differences,” he said, adding, “We welcome these initiatives as we seek to rebuild a value system and develop our youth in our society.” The Prime Minister also had the opportunity to meet the two Grenadians serving as volunteer crew members on the Logos Hope. “I believe this serves as motivation for the strengthening of the spirit of volunteerism that once served as part of our culture and heritage in Grenada,” He commented. The Prime Minister was also given a tour of the book display.
