Hillsborough, September 3, 2009- Despite a long dry spell during this planting season, the Belair Nursery has been able to produce a field of corn which is now available for sale to the public at a cost of $1.50 per head. According to Forestry Officer Benson Patrice this is all part of the Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs agro-forestry project and will help to lessen on the importation of this crop. Meanwhile, in keeping with government’s thrust to stimulate the agriculture industry, the workers at the nursery will be engaged in the coming weeks in planting of banana, on lands located on the outskirts of the nursery. The government’s agricultural policy is geared towards bringing hope to the thousands of farmers and their families, attracting young persons into agriculture and stimulating the rural economy.
