From the Office of the Prime Minister ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 11th, 2009_ Prime Minister, Hon. Tillman Thomas, has congratulated the newly elected Chief Minister of Montserrat, Mr. Reuben Meade, who leads the Movement for Change and Prosperity (MCAP), on his party’s 6-9 election victory. The election was called two years before constitutionally due. When the results of the election were announced on Wednesday, MCAP, secured six of the nine seats, while former Chief Minister Dr Lowell Lewis and two other independents took the remaining seats. The following is the text of the message to Chief Minister Meade: Dear Chief Minister, On behalf of the Government and People of Grenada, I offer congratulations to you and the Movement for Change and Prosperity, (MCAP) on your recent election victory. I look forward to working with you, within the OECS and CARICOM, to deepen our integration movement and fulfill the expectations and aspirations of our people. Your election victory comes as the Caribbean faces the challenges posed by the global recession and the resulting impact on our economies and our people. I also look forward to your own perspective becoming a part of the regional response to this crisis. I have no doubt that we can, together, overcome this difficult situation and prepare our countries for the benefits that are projected when the global economy recovers. I wish you and your team, a successful term in office.
