GOVERNMENT PLANS INCLUDE DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS
St. George’s, September 11, 2009 (GIS) – Government’s plans for revamping the education system will include developmental help for teachers, Grenada’s Prime Minister has said. Hon. Tillman Thomas has hinted that his government, which came to power just over one year ago, has been in talks with officials at the St. George’s University (SGU) to assist in structuring degree programs for teachers. “We have asked them to develop degree options specifically for teachers that can be done during the summer and other recesses at a reasonable cost for them,’’ Prime Minister Thomas said. SGU is Grenada’s lone university. Tertiary courses, leading to diplomas and associate degrees, are offered at another local institution, T.A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC). Prime Minister Thomas said expansion plans for TAMCC are continuing and promised that his administration will maintain its support for the college and to “support it as a premier tertiary education institution for Grenada.’’
