By Deanna Isaac Hillsborough, Carriacou, October 2nd, 2009- Bishop’s College was unable to take advantage of playing on home ground in the Republic Bank Right Start Football Tournament, in which the two secondary schools in Carriacou are competing for the first time in five years. In a match on Thursday, October 1, the Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) easily defeated Bishop’s College at the Hillsborough Recreation Ground. GBSS scored 12 goals against one from Bishop’s College. Football matches are being played nationwide, at fields in both Grenada and Carriacou. The last time the two secondary schools in Carriacou participated in the football tournament was in 2004. Since the election of the new Grenada government in 2008, it has been promoting greater involvement of Carriacou and Petite Martinique in all aspects of national life. Among the clearest manifestation of the government’s commitment has been Carriacou’s involvement in a cash prized national cricket competition, the launch of a steelpan tutoring programme in schools and now with the islands’ re-entry in the Republic Bank Right Start Football Tournament.
