From the Office of the Prime Minister ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, MONDAY, OCTOBER 5th, 2009_Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Ann Isaac, has called on newly promoted officers of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to work toward the strengthening of public confidence in law enforcement. Addressing a short promotions ceremony Monday morning, at which 27 members of the RGPF received their Chevrons, Mrs. Isaac said Grenada is not insulated from the rising incidence of crime in other countries in the region. “It is therefore incumbent upon you, the guardians of law and order in our society, to exercise a sense of responsibility and discretion, that will rekindle the trust that the RGPF has been seeking,” she said, noting that “it is that trust, that will encourage the public, to provide information and assistance to help in solving crimes and maintain a stable environment,” she said. In singling out the promotion of two female officers for comment, Mrs. Isaac said she is pleased that females were now getting the same consideration for promotion as men. She cautioned that quality policing must pervade the entire organisation and be reflected from constable to Commissioner. The Permanent Secretary reminded the officers that the negative action of a single officer, “undermines the credibility of the entire force and demoralizes those who are seeking to protect the respectability of the RGPF.” “Indeed, the higher you are promoted within the ranks of the Force, the greater the expectation that you will reflect a positive approach to policing and to those you protect. Your contribution to Grenada’s security is a contribution to the success of our economy, our culture, our tourism and our prosperity,” she aid. The Permanent Secretary pointed to the “peaceful temperament of our people and the ability of the members of the RGPF to perform their tasks without fear of favor,” for the stability and peacefulness of the country. She noted that the promotions were being made on the basis of performance and called on officers to ensure their decision making process is “free of political considerations”. “Your only allegiance should be to the RGPF and by extension the country that you serve, “ Mrs. Isaac said.
