GOVERNMENT MUST HELP CHRONIC DISEASE SUFFERERS
From the Office of the Leader of the Opposition October 07, 2009: Members of Her Majesty’s Opposition are appealing to the Tillman Thomas administration to implement the special programme for chronic disease sufferers which was approved by the Cabinet in June 2008, under the New National Party administration. This programme made provision to provide $150.00 per month to chronic disease sufferers who are aged and indigent and was unable to purchase their medication. The programme allowed for the medication which was available at the Government Pharmacy to be obtained free of charge. The Opposition’s view is that this programme was important then (while the NNP was in office), but is even more important now since many more persons depend daily on a supply of medication and are unable to find the financial resources to purchase these medications. Many of these persons were supported by family members, many of whom have lost their jobs or are just unable to meet this commitment as their own financial situation has deteriorated. The Opposition empathizes with the many patients who have lost their means of obtaining their medication on a monthly basis. Since July 2008, members of the Opposition continue to call on the Tillman Thomas administration to reestablish the safety net programmes initiated by the NNP administration to cushion the effects of the downturn in the world economy. The Opposition also calls on the Government to cutback on spending in areas that are not absolutely necessary such as overseas travel and to refrain from attacking local and foreign investor. The Opposition believes these are some of the main reasons why Grenada’s economic situation is being described as ‘catastrophic’ by the World Bank. Members of her Majesty’s Opposition are therefore calling on the nation to practice healthy habits in order to prevent the increase in the number of chronic diseases sufferers in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

GOVERNMENT MUST HELP CHRONIC DISEASE SUFFERERS
Each time i read statements from H M opposition i am wondering what is their real motive and i say this is it to make out that they really cared for our people or is it to say well look here when we were in government we did this and we did that for the people but did they explained to us where the money was coming from and another thing they are talking about help for the chronic disease suffers and the promise they made in june 08, people please remember that the NNP had desolved government and that was during the campaign for the forth coming election(i stand to be corrected)also can they the NNP explain to our people or better still give our people an account or the 18 or so million ec dollars they spent during the run up to the election and that they should stop inciting our people and be honest and explain all the double dealings that took place in our country under their administration then and only then will we trust then (nnp) again with the stewardship of our country.this government may not be producing some of the promises that they made during the election but people please give them time to get our house i order then and only then will we judge them and if it turns out that they are not up to it then we KICK them out of office one love.

I am happy to read that the Opposition (N.N.P) is at least talking about a serious issue; helping the sick and elderly. It's a breath of fresh air. I am just sick of the hatred and useless accusations that only separate us as a people. We all need to work together during this world ecomomic mess. However, the N.N.P still have a long way to go. Why should the opposition talk about the N.D.C attacking foreign and local investors? I understand that during the NNP reign, they bluntly refused to talk to a Grenadian investor who lives in New York because his brother was a top supporter of the N.D.C. I also think that attacking is too much a strong word to describe how we deal with investors. I don't believe that the N.D.C is against investors in any way. Grenadians in general have to be on guard for those CROOKED investors that roamed the Island and ripped of the people during the N.N.P reign. Those crooks name doesn't need mentioning. Grenadians know who they are. The opposition should stay away from such topic because their record is not too good with regards to investors. I am looking forward for some more positive input from the N.N.P. Their concern for the sick and elderly is a good example. Thanks
