By Deanna Isaac, Carriacou Hillsborough, Carriacou, October 14th, 2009- "Achieving Food Security in Times of Crisis'' is the theme of this year’s World Food Day celebrations and the Agriculture Division, Ministry of Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs is making final preparations for its observance. World Food Day will be observed on Friday, October 16. The celebration, on the grounds of the Hillsborough Market, will include an exhibition of locally produced fruits and vegetables and contributions from organizations such as the Carriacou Farmers Association and the 4H Club. Minister for Carriacou & Petite Martinique Affairs Senator, the Hon. George Prime, is expected to deliver the feature address at the event. The general public is asked to come out and support the event which commences at 2 pm. World Food Day is an opportunity for the Agriculture Division to highlight the work of the farmers of Carriacou & Petite Martinique.’’ World Food Day was proclaimed in 1979 at a conference of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations.
