Tillman Thomas has congratulated United States President Barack Obama after he was named as the 2009 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. The following is the full text of the statement: “On behalf of the Government and People of Grenada, I take this opportunity to congratulate you, on being named recipient of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize. The award of the Nobel Peace Prize at this stage of your Presidency, is recognition of the new approach you bring to the Office of President of the United States. It is also a reflection of the hope for peace, stability and freedom that this new approach brings to all citizens of the world. It is my hope that this era of leadership will yield a more secure environment for all freedom loving people. Your legacy, thus far, has shown a keen interest in diplomacy as the main conduit for the settlement of global concerns. I look forward to working with you in the international fora to achieve a new and lasting peace, at a time when the world is seeking ways of solving problems that affect our economic and social well being.”
