PRIME MINISTERS RECOGNISES IMPORTANCE OF OCTOBER 25TH ...
ST.GEORGE, GRENADA, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 24, 2009_ The Grenada government continues to recognize the significance of October 25th as Thanksgiving day to Grenada. In an effort to promote mass involvement in the commemoration of the events of October 1983, the Prime Minister has issued a message calling for healing and forgiveness, to be read at every church service on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th. That message will be accompanied by a similar message from United Stated President, Barack Obama. “Recognising the relatively small attendance at officially planned ceremonies marking October 25th over years, the decision was taken by Cabinet, after consultation with the National Celebrations Committee, to allow each denomination to highlight the event at their own church services during the weekend. This approach is therefore designed to encourage mass participation in the recognition of the events of October 1983,” Press Secretary Richard Simon said. He added that the importance of these events cannot be overstated, given their impact on Grenada. Government ministers and other senior officials will attend services over the weekend as Grenada marks one of the most important periods in its history. The government urges all citizens to use the day to reflect on the role they can play in building unified families and communities, that will ultimately lead to a unified nation.
