CLOSURE OF “GRENADA TODAY” NEWSPAPER IS A SAD CHAPTER
click
From Dr. Francis Alexis The closure of George Worme’s “Grenada Today” newspaper yesterday will definitely go down as a sad chapter in the history of Grenada. So says Dr. Francis Alexis. Dr. Alexis comments that the High Court did what it could to afford “Grenada Today” leeway to honour its obligations resulting from its libel of Dr. Keith Mitchell, when Dr. Mitchell was Prime Minister of Grenada. But the closure of a media house as a consequence of its libelling a public figure is a tragic reminder that the constitutional guarantee to freedom of expression is not absolute. This, of course, is indeed so with all human rights, they have their limitations, observes Alexis. A deep regret in the closure of “Grenada Today”, says Alexis, is that Dr. Mitchell did not see his way to accept from “Grenada Today” less than the full pound of flesh to which he was entitled regarding the libel. After all, Alexis points out, libel victims are known sometimes to settle and compromise with those who commit the libel. That Dr. Mitchell and George Worme’s “Grenada Today” could not reach a compromise is all the more remarkable because, Alexis notes, Worme and “Grenada Today” did all they could, successfully too, to get Dr. Mitchell elected as Prime Minister in 1995 in preference to George Brizan’s NDC. Bitter disappointing parting of the ways between Mitchell and Worme has now resulted in the closure of Worme’s “Grenada Today” and the writing of a story replete with tragedy in the annals of freedom of expression.

CLOSURE OF “GRENADA TODAY” NEWSPAPER IS A SAD CHAPTER
The closure of the grenada today newspaper is i must agree a sad day for our people, newspaper are there to inform and gives you/us news /stories some of these stories may sometimes be on the edge but by and large it challenges people, what Mr KCM did was to challenge such story which the court gave in his favour that does not mean that part of that same story was not true ,so one has to be careful when telling a story for it seems that Mr KCM had it in for that newspaper there was an agenda, but as our brother Martin Luther King once said freedom will always reign and people like Mr KCM wil rue the day and we as a people should not stop reading or telling stories where we believe our people wants to here.Under the NNP there was a lot of things happeing in our country rightly or wrongly that was swept under the carpet and this should never happen again so Mr kcm you have won this one but our people is watching you for it seems to me and i am sure many of our people that you and your party is behaving as though you had owned grenada and for me that is the action of a dictator sir your party have lost the last election and it is time to let go ,move out and give someone a chance to lead your party someone who has grenada and its people at heart a chance to help redevelope our country again and give us back our pride and stop behaving like a spoilt child whoes toy has ben taken away from him one love grenada

The Grenada Today was NEVER a piece of junk paper; it kept the people informed with great articles. Like any other newspaper, it wasn't perfect but It surely informed a large addiance. I guess that Keith Mitchel was on a mission to silence the press especially those who wrote articles that he (Keith)didn't like. Many dictators take that course. I can understand that those who are owned by Keith will try to classify the Grenada Today like trash because they have to follow their Master regardless of what. At least Keith's boy had a good point "not only the poor that have to feel the iron of the law....". Therefore lets hope that the same quote is applied when the time comes around for Keith, Bowen and folks like Mr. Cap Bank etc. etc. To those Keith worshipers, "LIQUIDATING THE GRENADA TODAY WILL NOT PUT KEITH & THE N.N.P BACK INTO POWER" POWER" Also remember, "KEITH DOESN'T OWN GRENADA. According to Wizard "show me the will.
