By Lester Smith 29.10.09 - Two major upset yesterday in Secondary School Football. With both teams needing a win in their final league match to qualify for the semi finals they all but ended up on the losing end. St. David’s Catholic Secondary won both matches against SAASS over at the Belle Vue Playing Field. In the Juniors St. David’s Catholic squeezed their way through with a 2-1 win. Jamie Sylvester and Todd Langdon converted for St. David’s Catholic while Jamal Charles scored the lone goal for SAASS. In the Seniors, it was a comfortable 3-1 victory for St. David’s, a result that sent shocking waves up to the “Big Parish”. Alex Lambert scored twice and Delano Lambert chipped in the third. SAASS could only manage a consolation own goal to enter the score sheet. While that result may have spilled good news for the fans in the north, Grenada Seventh Day Adventist only had to win to qualify for the Semi Finals but they too suffered at the feet of the Grenville Secondary. They lost by the narrowest of margins 1-0 at the Victoria Park. This means that SAASS now will advance on a better goal difference and will face St. John’s Christian Secondary in the League Semi Final. In the Junior match, Grenada Seventh Day Adventist won 2-0 over Grenville Secondary to book a place in the Semi Final. Both goals came from the boot of leading goalscorer in that Division, Crissaldo John. Over at the Roy St. John Playing Field, Westerhall Secondary edged past Wesley College 1-0 to record a long awaited victory. Brian Calliste scored the only goal. In the Seniors, Wesley College had a turn around as they won 2-1 to move away from the bottom of the table. Leron Nelson and Danny St. Louis scored for Wesley College and Jemon Moses converted for Westerhall Secondary. The other match played in the Junior Division in Zone B. Mc Donald College hammered Hillsborough Secondary 8-1 at home to clinchéd the top spot in that Division. Jackim Young skillfully worked his way to a hattrick of goals, Shavon John scored a double while Courtney Francis, Michael Cyrus and Kenral Stanisclaus chipped in with a goal each. Matches are on today in the Girls Division Zone A. St. Mark’s Secondary will host Happy Hill Secondary at the Alston George Park and neighbouring St. Rose Modern secondary will also be at home to St. Joseph Convent St. George’s. St. Joseph Convent St. George's earned a comfortable 3-0 victory over St. Rose Modern Secondary at the Cuthbert Peters. Sisters Risa and Ramona Garraway scored all three (3) goals for Convent. Ris though, scored two goals. In the other match, favorites Happy Hill went down 2-0 to St. Mark's Secondary. The win now takes St. Mark's to nine (9) points. Secondary School Football action continues tomorrow with three (3) matches: In Zone A of the Junior Division: Wesley college plays against Westmorland Secondary at Queens Park and St. David's Catholic and Hillsborough clash at the Belle Vue Playing Field. The other match to be played tomorrow features Bishop's College and Presentation Brothers College over at the Hillborough in Carriacou.
