As the 26-member Grenada delegation, continues its participation in the 30th Annual World Travel Market in the United Kingdom, smiles were evident when three (3) of Grenada’s hoteliers were recipients of prestigious awards at the Virgin Holidays Annual Awards Ceremony on Monday November 9, 2009. In making the announcements to global industry partners for their hard work and dedication during the last year, Managing Director of Virgin Holidays Amanda Wills noted the pleasure associated with honouring the Grenadian hoteliers. For the fourth year, Sir Royston O Hopkin KCMG of the five-star Spice Island Beach Resort was recognized and awarded Gold in the Best Platinum Hotel category. The five-star Calabash Hotel and Villas won a Bronze Award for the Best Small Hotel in the Caribbean, while Laluna collected the Silver Award in the Partnership Award for Sustainable Tourism. In commenting on these distinguished achievements, Tourism Minister Hon. Glynis Roberts, who is attending World Travel Market for the first time, said “I am very proud of our hoteliers. Virgin Holidays is one of our strongest partners and it is primarily due to the quality of our hotels that the partnership is so successful”. Mr. Richard Strachan, Chairman of the Grenada Board of Tourism, who is also attending this year’s World Travel Market, added that “The UK is our most important market and we are delighted that our hotels are rated so highly by Virgin Holidays and we look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship”. Participation at World Travel Market is again dominated by a strong Private Sector presence of hoteliers, tour operators, and other service providers and stakeholders. They are promoting their services and offerings under the theme ‘Rhythms of Spice’ to the more than 50,000 participants. The delegation to World Travel Market is being led by the Minister for Tourism Honourable Glynis Roberts.
