PRIME MINISTER SEEKS ASSISTANCE FOR AGRICULTURAL SECTOR...
ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12th, 2009_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas continues to seek assistance from friendly countries for Grenada’s farmers. During a recent meeting with Egyptian Ambassador to Grenada, His Excellency Ali Saleh Mohamed Mourad, the Prime Minister discussed assistance in the areas of agriculture and tourism. “We are working to transform Grenada’s agricultural sector because it is an area that can generate foreign exchange and employment for our people,” the Prime Minister told the Egyptian Ambassador, who confirmed that Egypt is interested in building the island’s human resources, in both sectors. H.E Mourad, also suggested that it could be “possible” for Grenada along with Egypt, Venezuela and another Caribbean country, to do a project in agriculture and chemical processing. Both the Prime Minister and the Ambassador agreed that Grenada can benefit from the experience of Egypt in the area of irrigation technology, which is regarded as the best in the world. They also welcomed the opportunity to deepen bilateral relations and strengthen the relationships between the two countries. The two men also discussed the preservation of Grenada’s historical sites, artifacts and landmarks as part of the enhancement of Grenada’s tourism product. His Excellency Ali Saleh Mohamed Mourad was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Hala Esmat Abul Kasem El Kady during the courtesy call on the Prime Minister’s office.

PRIME MINISTER SEEKS ASSISTANCE FOR AGRICULTURAL SECTOR...
All you watch this Venezuela reference - a dictator who is not viewed favourably in the world, who sells his oil to Iran and afterall did not make a sweet gas deal with Grenada and other Caribbean countries(don't be fooled). Teach and encourage agriculture as a priority (4-H) etc. Increase the agriculture budget; get fellas like "Tokes" involved. Seek out experienced Grenadians abroad and bring them home opening your mind to change because we have a lot to offer especially as we have been outside the box. Don't sell Grenada short on the nutmeg production; it is the best quality compared to the other competitor, but you must increase production and better control and market the product from start to finish. Forget about the centralized government system - it is not working except for the government officials who wish to maintain "massa" control! Establish local governments in each Parrish! The benefits far out weigh the present system. There are lots of suggestions and support for such a system but you must be prepared to listen and take advice - that was part of Uncle Gairy's problems. Finally, just what are you thinking about when instead of bringing investor dollars to the island you seem to be doing the reverse? Remember Heineken that went to another island in the 70's? Investors are also looking for incentives and skilled people to perform - think about that. What skills- training and development are our schools, industries and government involved in promoting? Listen "Powers That Be" Grenada needs to do a lot of catching up but you should set the pace.

The political enviroment needs be stabalize itself. Then the government can improve its marketing strategies that can encourage foreign investor to put thier money into the economy so this can increase country's GDP.

If these discussions "bear fruits", it would be very good for the economy, the farmers and Grenadians in general. The agricultural sector needs to be boosted, as we seemingly concentrate primarily on tourism. It would be great if we can feed ourselves, especially with organically grown food(s).
