PRIME MINISTER SAYS REPAIRS TO WEST COAST ROAD IS A PRI...
S.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, MONDAY, NOVEMBER 16th, 2009_ Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas has expressed appreciation to bus drivers plying the west coast route, for their contribution to getting commuters to St. George’s, at no additional cost. The Prime Minister’s comments came during a tour of the Brizan/Perseverance area, where a section of the main west coast road linking St. George’s with the rest of the country collapsed, while blasting operations designed to widen the roadway were underway. “I applaud the decision of the bus drivers because at this time, we need the participation of all stakeholders to ensure that no single group bears the burden of this unfortunate incident alone,” the Prime Minister said. He said government will make the restoration of the roadway a priority because of its importance to various sectors of the economy. “I empathise with the people, especially the workers and the students, on the north and west coasts who use this route every day to get to work and school. I understand the difficulties they are facing with the loss of this section of road, but we will make what ever resources we have available to ensure a return to normalcy as soon as possible,” the Prime Minister said. The Prime Minister also cautioned residents to observe the directions of the Ministry of Works to use alternative routes, as the area is unstable and could pose damage to persons who continue to use the area on foot. Mr. Thomas met on the site with the Minister for Works, Physical Development and Public Utilities, Hon Joseph Gilbert, the Chief Technical Officer in the Minister of Works, Cecil Harris and other officials associated with the project.
