DR. MITCHELL CALLS FOR SUPPORT FOR BUSMEN
click
November 19th 2009: Leader of the Opposition, Dr. the Rt. Hon. Keith Mitchell is calling on the Government to reconsider it’s decision to ask Busmen to bear the full cost of transporting passengers from the West of the island to St. George’s. Dr. Mitchell says while he agrees that the Busmen should make a sacrifice, they must not be left to carry the full burden in these hard economic times and call on the Government to step in as a matter of urgency. The Opposition leader says he empathizes with the busmen as many of them were already struggling to meet their monthly commitments when they plied their regular route during this most difficult economic time. The Former Prime Minister has joined former Minister for Communications, Works and Public Utilities Mr. Gregory Bowen in expressing concern for Commuters, school children, Bus operators, Businessmen, fishermen and farmers among others who can no longer use the Western Main Road. He agrees with the former Minister for Works that Government must take full responsibility for this disaster since a study for the site done under the NNP administration recommended that a road should be constructed behind the stone to avoid blasting which was deemed to be very dangerous. He said the Government’s decision to ignore the recommendations is not surprising, as this has been the trend of the Government since assuming office.

DR. MITCHELL CALLS FOR SUPPORT FOR BUSMEN
Damond sir it is refreshing and enlightening to read your comment and yes i do agree with some of the things you say and it is about time our people hold them accountable when things goes wrong and question our elected M.P.and hold them responsible. We in grenada need more openness and truthfulness in government from both the ruling party and the opposition.

Although I am not fully aware of the issue surrounding the western portion of Grenada commuter roadway, I think it being subjectively partition while the problem lingers does not help to have the problem quickly resolved. We can only help the busmen by finding a quick solution to the issue. The government in power should be supported by everyone in finding a quick fix to the problem. Dr. Keith Mitchell may have made mistakes when in power, nevertheless, he did accomplish a lot of good for the country and its people. If the former prime minister, Dr. Keith Mitchell, made mistakes or mis-spend government funds which seems to upset many, he should not be held solely responsible. Where were you-the people to prevent that? You the people are the CHECKs & BALANCES...your representatives are obligated to you...why didn't you pressure them to give you answers when you thought such wasteful spendings were occurring...you must hold your representatives responsible for what's wrong with the economy, etc...challenge, force and hold them responsible for everything that's not occurring according to the campaign promises. It's your responsibility to do likewise with the Tilman Thomas Adminstration...challenge every minister to give you answers as to why the western road problem is not promptly address and resolve. This is not the 60s and 70s when you're unable to challenge those past administrations. The people voted them in and should be able to force them to either act or resign...mobilization is the key to gettting thing done...pressure your reps from the consituent(s) to answer to the people whenever a problem occurs and lingers too long. Goo luck!

Cat man i do agree with you these members of HM opposition should be in jail for some of the things that was going on while they were in government and all this sudden caring is a smoke screenthe, Tillman government should call in an international agency of investigators to investigate the last government dealings and if found wanting should put them on trial so that grenadians know what a rotten lot they were yes they have done some good things in grenada for grenadians but they have also squandered a lot of our heritage and left our country in a black hole financially.

Does THE RH Dr Mitchell and his ex minister ever sit down and talk for it seems he is now repeating the very things that Mr Bowen said in this site a few days ago, Dr Mitchell why are you and your party now show so much concern about the wellfare of the grenadian people or is it just trouble making DR.Mitchell was you as concern for our people when you were in government or are you more so now that you are in opposition.
