Grenada’s Commissioner of Police, James Clarkson, has made an appeal to lawmakers for the laws of Grenada to be revised in order for the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) to better serve the public in its fight against prostitution and organized crime. His call came on the heels of the discovery of a prostitution ring in Grenada, headed by a twenty-five young inmate at Her Majesty’s Prisons. According to the COP, the laws of Grenada allow the court to fine persons guilty of soliciting a mere EC$25. He is calling on stiffer penalties to be imposed for such offenses. This call was made at a special press conference last week Tuesday at Police Headquarters where information was provided to the press about the status of the police investigation into the Spice Isle Escort Service. Present at this meeting was Grenada’s Minister Karl Hood, who is responsible for Social and Ecclesiastical Affairs. He praised the efforts of the police in their ongoing investigations and said that he will do what he can to have the legislation amended but warned that it might take some time.
