DIRECTOR OF TOURISM PLACED ON TWO-WEEK SUSPENSION
click
Director of Tourism with the Grenada Board of Tourism (GBT), William Joseph, has been placed on a two-week suspension while investigations are being carried out into the Sunwing Airline fiasco. The investigation follows stinging criticism, from members of the general public as well as from key stakeholders in the tourism industry, over the failure of officials at the Grenada Board of Tourism to organize an official welcome for the airline’s inaugural flight into the country just over two weeks ago. It has been a long established tradition that inaugural flights into the country receive an official welcome by the Grenada board of Tourism. It is believed that at the time of Sunwing’s arrival into the country, both Mr. Joseph and the Public Relations Officer of the GBT, Mr. Edwin Frank, were at the Maurice Bishop’s International Airport (MBIA) waiting to board the same flight for a complimentary flight back to Toronto. In a letter addressed to the Minister of Tourism, Hon. Glynis Roberts, President of the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association, Mr. Russ Fielden, commented on the need for the need for the tourism industry to strive for perfection at the highest level. He expressed utter disappointment at the failure of the GBT to mount an official welcoming ceremony for the airline and reminded the minister that the former Attorney-General of Grenada, Mr. James Bristol, was given the axe for writing letter which had no effect on the nation’s economy. The Sunwing airline intends to operate a weekly flight out of Toronto year round and two flights during the peak season. Several airlines coming into the country are being subsidized by government to do so, however, Sunwing airlines have not requested any such subsidy.

This does not change my assertion Gabe. I cant blame you for the way you see this. You are a small thinker, narrow-minded in intellect. This just confirms what I am have been saying. If the PM and the Minister of Tourism were paying any attention to the affairs of the state as it relates to Tourism. They would have noticed that no accommodations were made. The fact that you had the Director at the airport preparing to board the flight, suggest that no one was seeing that the Director did his Job. The person with that overarching responsibility is the PM and the Minister of Tourism. If either the Minister or the PM had called in and asked the Director about the flight, this would have been caught before it erupted into this fiasco. As far as I am concerned, the Minister of Tourism should have been fired as well. In every organization whether it is a government or a business, there needs to be someone in charge ensuring that the tasks of the organization is carried out. That those at the subordinate level do their Job. This is not a form of a dictatorship but rather it is a scheme for a successful organization to thrive and flourish. Grenada is a small island, and that is why I am particularly mad as hell that this occured. The government is taking their eyes of the ball. They are loosing sight of why they were elected. They were elected to transform the country; to change it. Instead, there is more crap and corrption.
