The Alexia III, a cargo vessel that has been travelling between Grenada and Trinidad for many decades, has sunk off the coast of Grenada while on its way to Carriacou for major repairs.
The cargo vessel e first encountered difficulties on December 08 when it drifted and stuck on the reef off Grenville’s harbor. It is reported that the stranded and frightened passengers and crew members were rescued by small boats at Grenville.
Attempts to remove the stuck vessel proved very difficult and it was not until December 19, after minor repairs were done on the hull of the cargo vessel that it was finally moved.
The ship sank on its way to Carriacou where it was going to have major repairs done to make it sea worthy once again. It is believed that all the crew members, except one, has been accounted for. A search is currently being carried out to locate the missing crew member and the police are believed to be conducting their own investigations into the matter.
