My Brothers and Sisters throughout Grenada, especially in the beautiful constituency of St. Andrew’s North West, I bring you warm Christmas Greetings!! May the Song of the Angels Of “Glory to God And Peace to His people on earth” be ever more true in our homes and in our hearts all through this Christmas season. During our celebrations, let us not only focus on the commercial side of Christmas - in the feasting, merry making, partying, money-making and in the elaborate beautification of our homes – but let us also reflect on the Story of the Nativity – the true reason for our celebrations - and let us endeavor to brighten and beautify our lives, our friendships and our relationship with those around us. Christmas is meant to be a reminder of God’s ineffable love for humanity. John 3:16 tells us: For God so love the world that HE gave HIS only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. The birth of a Divine being of such immense importance to our lives did not take place in the richest city at the time nor was it marked by the sort of pomp and splendor associated with royalty. Instead, it took place in a lowly manger, among animals and poor and indigent people. The news of His birth was not conveyed by the heavenly angels to the kings of the world but to the humble shepherds in the fields looking after their sheep on a cold night. You see, Brothers and Sisters, Christ’s physical presence among us was not meant to teach us to amass earthly riches, but instead, to inspire us to love each other, to give unselfishly of ourselves, to help the poor and unfortunate in our midst and to strive to bring peace in our lives. If we practice these things in earnest, we will find that we can live more fulfilling and rewarding lives and we will be adding meaning to our personal existence. We are presently in the midst of an economic recession and many people among us are without jobs or find it difficult to make very short ends meet. Let this not dampen our spirits this year because the fact remains that we are in a position to share the little that we have with others, show love to others, make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, share the joy and happiness of the season with family, friends and neighbors and build solid bridges of friendship that will endure the test of time. For this Christmas, let us chose to spend wisely and exercise moderation in the things that we chose to do, because when the season passes by, there will be difficult times ahead for us to grapple with. Let me encourage everyone to at least attend a place of worship of your choice this Christmas and give thanks to the Almighty for his blessings throughout the year and pray for His guidance in helping us to face the challenges that lay ahead. May you have the gift of faith, the blessing of hope and the peace of His love this Christmas and each day throughout the New Year.
