GRENADA - Over 10, 000 barrels would have come through the St. George’s Port for the season. This total reflects an increase in the number of barrels entering the country as compared to the same period last year.
It is estimated that approximately 4,451 households throughout the state of Grenada would have benefited from this year’s free barrel programme, a policy of the ruling National Democratic Congress administration to help locals deal with the pressures brought about by the economic recession, which is severely affecting the country, as well as other countries in the region.
Last year, the government would have sacrificed over EC$151,000.00 in revenue through the free barrel program. It is believed that this time around, the sacrifice would be greater.
