NNP CALLS ON LABOR SENATOR TO REPRESENT WORKERS OR RESI...
click
By The NEW NATIONAL PARTY (NNP) 11th February, 2010: The NNP calls on the Labor Representative in the Senate to do the right thing. Either he represents the Workers or he resigns as the Labor Senator. It is a fact that the Senator is a Politician and is very aligned to the NDC Government. During the 2008 Election Campaign he spoke on the Platform of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC). The workers of this Country needs a representative in the Senate who cares about their suffering. Not someone who has a fixation on The Hon. Dr. Keith Mitchell and the New National Party (NNP). Too many workers are loosing their jobs. A very good example are the hundreds of CCC workers who lost their jobs. They were told to vote for NDC because better days were coming. They are still waiting for the BETTER DAYS. Many mothers and fathers are hurting because they too are unable to provide for their families. The NNP calls on the Labor Representative in the Senate to have a heart and represent the workers the same way he did when the NNP was in Government. It appears that his only interest is to be a Senator for life and continue to blame the NNP

Diamond,i think that you are going a bit too far with your criticism of mothers having children.I see your point about handouts, but you cannot blame the ladies for having children. We as men have a responsibility too. There are men that make promises to the ladies about looking after the kids but run away when the children are born.I would suggest sticking to the facts about the senator. You were doing well so far.

Sheila, I couldn't agree with you more. Mothers and children are suffering beacuse they're too dependent on the government...where have the family values and principles gone to? It's a mother and father's primary responsibility to provide and ensure their children are fed and brought up well...don't keep having children when you know you're not financially capable of providing for them. Don't blame the government if you do not have food to put on the table. Mothers and fathers should quite innovative and creative to secure employment and food for their children the minute they decide to play the game of childbearer... if the government cannot provide employment , do not hold it responsible. As JFK once said,"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for yourcountry."

Calls from NNP for Labor Senator to either represent the workers or resign is a far fetch request. This guy's as vulnerable as any other government employee. He's playing the politics as usual game as any other Grenadian politician. There's not much the senator can do. Grenadians must come to the understanding that they did not directly select nor voted for the senator to repesent them in parliament; the poor guy was appointed on grounds of either his political affiliation, friendship, family name, favor or other unknown interest. The manner in which politics is conducted in the Caribbean is basically "Survival of the fittest...do as I say or die" The following is an example how senators are selected:THE SENATE in Grenada The Senate consists of thirteen (13) non-elected Members. There is no opposition in the Senate. The members come from different sources. They are: Seven are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister. Three are appointed on the advice of the Leader of the Opposition. Three are appointed on the advice of the Prime Minister after he has consulted the organizations or interests which he considers the Senators should be selected to represent. FUNCTIONS OF THE SENATE: To act as a House of review with responsibility for expressing second opinion in relation to legislative and other proposals initiated in the House of Representatives. To ensure proper consideration of all legislation. To provide adequate scrutiny of financial measures. To initiate non-financial legislation as the Senate sees fit: the Senate’s capacity to initiate proposed legislation effectively means that Parliament is not confined in its opportunities for considering public issues in a legislative context to those matters covered by bills brought forward by the executive. To probe and check the administration of laws and to keep itself informed and to insist on ministerial accountability for the administration of the Government. To provide effective scrutiny of Government and enable adequate expression of debate about policy and government programmes. As a parliamentary forum, the Senate is one place where a Government can be, of right, questioned and obliged to answer. All bills must be passed by the Senate before they can become law and it has the constitutional right to reject any bill, and keep on rejecting it as long as it sees fit. It can also amend any bill, although it cannot initiate or increase the amount of any bill dealing with taxation or expenditure. In addition, the senator in question is powerless. He does not have much influence in the way resources are distributed, especially when he's from the opposition. As an opposition senator (if he is), he is fighting to keep himself employed...he goes along with the satatus quo, people. As his constituents you've got the power to cause him to act. If your issues and expectations are not addressed and met, then take the ignitiative and put pressure on him and your government to give you answers to your problems. This can be done through a series of flooded phone calls and e-mails to his office, your elected official offices or mass visits to his office...you've got the right to seek answers and do so through those means, they're using your tax dollars to pay their salaries and daily expenses as they move about. This effort would force them to respond to the needs of the people. In order for the people to have true and honest representation, they must change the process in which politicians are elected. Since there's any "checks and Balance System" in Grenada, the people must take the lead and demand that before anyone can paricipate in the political process they would have to declare their worth. This will help to minimize corruption, theft and wasteful spending. For example, on Thursday,February 11,2010, CNN - Anderson Cooper did a piece on the financial exploitations of Haiti by its leaders. I wonder how many of us had the opportunity to see that piece. Haiti like any of the Caribbean islands has the opportunity to maintain itself financially independently, but unfortunately, because of greed and self-centeredness of a few, the massive suffer. As a people, we must hold our elected officials reposible.

When the PR from the NNP makes statements re their posting 11/2/10 and claims that the labour trade unionist representive in the senate is not representing his members and also claims that during the last election he shared a platform with the the opposition (ndc)maybe some one should tell them that this man is entitled to speak on any platform NNP,NDC,nad even THE lABOUR PARTY and it is what he says that matters not who he says it with ,also the fact that you claims that many mothers and fathers is suffering now in grenada are you saying that this is this the fault of the senator or is it because when the NNP was in power they went on a borrowing spree to every banker they can find and that is why we as a country is heavy in debt ,yes we owe it to our people to look after thoes who can least help themselves but we should also be educating our people on the real issues we are now facing and not only the poor admist us but everyone of us and that we have to work together as a people ,as a country because it is the only way that our country will be able to get out of this rut that we are in. Yes the NNP have done some good things in our country but it was at a great borrowing cost to our people so for them to start picking on the labour senator shows you why most of their young senators is now jumping ship because they could no longer put up with all that nonsence that they keeps putting out and it is about time that we unite ourselves as a country as one people and move forward.
