By Michael Bascombe NAMPA, Idaho - Grenadian Kurt Felix completed a record-setting second day of competition in the men's heptathlon for Boise State University at the 2010 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships held at the Jacksons Track at the Idaho Center on the weekend. Felix, a junior and former student of the Grenada Boys' Secondary School, earned his first career WAC title, capturing the men's heptathlon gold with a school record point total of 5,348 points. Entering Friday's competition, Felix held a 217 point lead over the second-place competitor after completing the first four events of the heptathlon on Thursday. With three events remaining on Friday, Felix was able to capture an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, a fifth-place finish in the pole vault and a third-place finish in the 1000 meter run to maintain his top position overall. He ran a time of 8.93-seconds in the hurdles while also posting career-bests of 13-feet, 9.25-inches in the vault and 2-minutes, 49.35-seconds in the 1000-meters. Heading into the final event of the 1000-meter run Felix was aiming to run a fast enough time to move him up in the national rankings. Although he did not hit his target time of 2-minutes, 43-seconds, he was able to run a personal-best time and earn enough points to top the Boise State school record in the men's heptathlon by one point. Felix, who held the second-best mark in school history prior to Friday (5,346 points), topped former Bronco Heigo Nurmsalu's school record of 5,346 points set in 2007 while also improving his personal-best by two points.
