MWAG WELCOMES UNESCO FUNDING FOR MEDIA TRAINING
The Media Workers Association of Grenada (MWAG) welcomes the decision by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) to approve funding for media training in Grenada this year. MWAG will like to formally and publicly express our gratitude to UNESCO for this timely and necessary injection of EC $60, 000 which we believe will go a long way in supporting our ongoing campaign to ensure the skills of our members are upgraded. Over the years, our organization has put on and facilitated various training workshops covering issues from media fundamentals to seminars on issues that inform members of the profession. However, as a small organization with extremely scarce resources, we have been severely restricted in our ability to build capacity amongst our membership. The UNESCO funding covers two comprehensive training exercises later this year and we are confident that the profession will be better as a result of such a noble gesture. MWAG would like to single out Secretary General of UNESCO in Grenada Eugene Gittens as well as Dr. Fernandez Aballí, Isidro of the UNESCO office in Jamaica for the role they have played helping to secure the funding.
