click
A large crowd witness Sunday's double header at the Horeb playing field in New Hampshire as the St. George North East Football Competition moved into top gear. A dozen goals were scored as Boca Strikers defeated United Brothers of New Hampshire 4-1 and New Hampshire United defeated the St. George's Under-20 team 5-2. In the first game Travis Barry went onto the score sheet inside five minutes as he headed in a corner taken by Tacoma Slomo to put Boca Strikers ahead. Brothers United restored parity when Shimon Murrel scored from the penalty spot almost on the stroke of half time. This after Jomokee Phillip was ajudged to have handled the ball in the area and Referee Cuthbert Brown pointed to the spot. Substitute Ryan Clarke restored Boca's lead early in the second half with a composed finish which followed some good approach play on the left flank. Tacoma Slomo extended Boca's lead to two goals when he scored from the spot after a penalty was awarded for a foul on Jomokee Phillip by the Brothers United custodian Densley Baptiste. Jomokee Phillip then completed the scoring when he eluded the defence and shot past the hapless goalkeeper. This victory gave Boca Strikers their first points of the competition while United Brothers suffered their first defeat. In the second game Hampshire United, boasting a lineup that included four senior current and former national players proved too much for a committed but somewhat limited St. George's U 20. In the opening minutes of the game Terry Lewis fired in a quick brace to put the youngsters under pressure to which they responded admirably as Jemron Moses scored before the end of the first half to set up the possibility of a fightback in the second. About midway into the second half Referee Dean Jules awarded a penalty when Brendon Mitchell was fouled in the box. Troy Frank scored the penalty and Dillon St. Louis added two more goals as Hampshire United increased their stranglehold on proceedings. Valdon Lewis was however able to curl one past the Hampshire shot stopper in the dying moments of the game to improve the look of the final scoreline. Hampshire United 5 - St. George U 20 2.
