ST GEORGE'S, June 24, 2010 - Hampshire United overcame adversity and recent history by figuratively rising from the dead to get past Vendome Marvelites into the final of the SGNE constituency knockout at the Vendome playing field on Thursday. They ignored the fact that in their last outing against Vendome Marvelites they were soundly beaten by four goals to nil. They went a goal down early in the first half after goalkeeper Denrol Jules spilled a speculative shot into the path of Shawn Jones who drilled the ball home. They were soon also a man down when referee Alford Nelson gave Kurt Murrel his marching orders for an errant tackle. They next went two goals down when Glenmar Francis scored off a corner early in the second half. Hampshire United first got hope when Troy Frank scored to round off a quick flowing attack to cut the deficit to one. They got belief when Denrol Jules began his atonement by scoring a free kick. This took the fixture into the penalty shoot out phase where Curtis Munroe of Marvelites missed the first of his teams allotted five penalties with Kenny Baptiste of Hampshire missing the last of his teams quota. Enter the phase of sudden death where both sides scored their sixth try. Leary Gittens then missed the seventh spot kick taken on behalf of Vendome Marvelites allowing Denrol Jules to complete his redemption by smashing in his penalty. *Red Out remain unbeaten in St. George North East in 2010* Also on Thursday, Red Out overcame Tempe All Blacks by two goals to one at Horeb to progress to the final of the SGNE Constituency knockout. Goals by Wendell Bridgeman and Kelly Alexander for Red Out gave them the victory while Finbar Williams netted for Tempe All Blacks. The final is scheduled for Horeb on Sunday 27th June at 4:30p.m. From Michael Bascombe
