WASHINGTON, DC, October 14, 2010 – Grenada and the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) have signed a US$8.5 million loan agreement for the second phase of the Agricultural Feeder Roads Project. The agreement was signed in Washington, DC last Friday by Finance Minister, Nazim Burke and the Director General of OFID, Suleiman Al-Herbish. The Finance Minister hailed the signing of the loan agreement as “an important development as Government seeks to expedite public sector projects to promote job creation and economic growth”. “Indeed, this was one of the commitments given by Prime Minister Tillman Thomas in his national address on September 7, 2010”. Mr Burke thanked the OFID for “its continuing support for development of Grenada especially in the transport sector”. Mr Al-Herbish indicated that OFID is happy to support Grenada in this second phase as it was pleased with the impact of the first phase of the project. The second phase of this project will cost approximately EC$52 million and provides for the rehabilitation or upgrading of 30.6 kilometres of agricultural feeder roads throughout Grenada. The works will include the rehabilitation or construction of drainage systems, sea defences and bridges. The other funders of the project are the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the Government of Grenada. By Michael Bascombe

FINANCE MINISTER NAZIM BURKE SIGNS LOAN AGREEMENT FOR P...

To ensure the $8.5, 000,000.00 loan is allocated to the rightful projects as stated by Nazim Burke and the NDC government, we (the think tank, observers, bloggers, news media and government watchdogs) must remain vigilant and monitor the action of how our government use that money, which it stated is for agricultural and road project purposes...we've got to keep the heat on Tillman to ensure he is accountable for every cent spent from that $8.5,000,000.00. We have got to break it down to the ordinary lay person on the street that they too are responsible for enforcing the rules of transparency, responsibility and accountabliity of our government to its people who are responsible for repaying the $8.5,000,000.000. Power to the Collective Observation of Our Government Handling of the Money. Let's hope that NDC would indiscriminately give contracts to Grenadians, not just NDC stmpathizers...NNP and GULP are Grenadians too...they all have families and needs. Power to Impartial Treatment of All Grenadians, Irespective of Party Allegiance.

Littleboy, Tillman Thomas is a weak leader because his support base is unfortunately weaker than he is...his supporters sit idly and fail to make demands of the NDC leadership to force the expulsion of Nazim and the others that are daily challenging the effectiveness of the leadership. Sometime last week I listed the names and contact information of all the parliamentarians including Tillman THomas and Keith Mitchell. The information was listed for our people contact our officials to act in the people's interest...don't know if anyone took up the challenge. Yes, we need young bloods and I'll be willing to contribute finance and human resource (my help-campaign) to anyone who is willing to run. Power to the People!

Damond cant you see whats happening? These lawyers we have running this little island are so dam schemish no one can believe anything they say. Look at all the money involved in this Hamilton deal and its just coming out. We couldn't trust Mitchel and I seriously have my doubts about this goverment now. Seems like Tillman Thomas may want to do something good but is overuled by Burke and David. We do not need any lawyers running this State. FRESH YOUNG BLOOD

Littleboy and Jack, democracy will continue to improve in our country as long as we're allowed to ask the right questions and given the right answers. Those questions you're asking are to the point and worthy of a response...we've got to take the responsibility and lead in holding our government responsible and accountable to the people of our tri-island state. Let's continue to monitor Nazim and the NDC spending of the money geared for agricultural development and road reconstruction. Power to the People Who Are not Afraid to Call Upon Our Government for Answers!
