St. George’s, November 19, 2010 – Uncertainty surrounding the future of the Grenada government, ostensibly sparked by a cabinet reshuffle, is forcing the return home of two ministers who are out of the country on business. Works and Public Utilities, Hon. Joseph Gilbert, was returning home Friday evening, two days ahead of schedule. He has been in Dominica attending a meeting of the Eastern Caribbean Telecommunications Authority, which he chairs. Junior Information and Culture Minister, Sen. Arley Gill, is also cutting short an overseas visit to Nairobi, Kenya, where he has been attending a meeting. Sen. Gill is due back in Grenada by Sunday. With an eye on the situation, Opposition Leader Dr. Keith Mitchell is also calling a premature end to a current visit to Canada to return home. As part of the reshuffle, announced earlier this week by Prime Minister Hon.Tillman Thomas, MP Karl Hood was sworn in Friday as the new Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Environment. He formerly held the Labour portfolio. Former diplomat, Dennoth Modeste, also took the oath of office to sit as a member of the Upper House of Parliament. In the Prime Minister’s announcement, he also revealed that Peter David was being reassigned from Foreign Affairs to the Ministry of Tourism; Glynis Roberts was being taken from Tourism and placed in the Ministry of Labour; and Environment Minister Michael Church was being demoted to Minister of State in the Ministry of Works and Public Utilities. However, neither David, Roberts nor Church showed up at the Office of Governor General, Sir Carlyle Glean, to take the oath to their new portfolios. Friday afternoon, a crew that included one of MP David’s brothers was seen carting away his wall paintings, magazines, books and other personal items from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Botanical Gardens, St. George’s. In the meantime, moves are continuing among members of the ruling National Democratic Congress in an attempt to find a resolution and avoid a worsening of situation. At least two meetings of party are said to be scheduled for this weekend.

MEETINGS OF RULING PARTY MEMBERS PLANNED
The moment for decisive action has finally materialized. The actions taken by our PM Tillman are indications that he's listening to the voice of those of us who have been beaconing him for scrutiny, investigation...of some of his ministers. In fact, since our political system does not have a "Checks and Balances System", I do believe the NNP some GC.com bloggpers and the on ground with silent voices deserve some credit for the PM decisions on the reshuffling of his cabinet. Though the PM did not go far enough, I think many of us are patient with him. However, I expect to see some more radical and swift changes within the ranks. Unfortunately, Grenada does not have a WATCHDOG--an independent body to police the activities (abuse of government privileges, corruption, betc.) of our politicial appointees and governor general. These guys are traveling all over the bloody world while the massive remain unemployed and hungry. Change must come. And it must begin from the inside.
