GRENADA STAYED WITHIN TOP 100 IN FIFA RANKINGS
NEW YORK, December 15, 2010 - Grenada stayed within the top 100 in the lastest FIFA/Cocoa-Cola World Ranking. The Spice Boyz, ranked 94th, dropped three places from their November position and sits at 11th in the CONCACAF grouping. The national team played five games, four of which counted, in the month before the last World Ranking was released. The games were played in the DIGICEL Caribbean Cup with Grenada finishing fourth. Grenada is hoping to better its highest ever FIFA ranking of 88th, achieved in July 2009 and President of the Grenada Football Association, Cheney Joseph has been in discussions with officials of other national associations with the hope of securing international friendlies for the team's preparation for the 2011 Gold Cup Tournament to be played in the United States. "We are also trying to secure some of our professional players for upcoming friendlies and the Gold Cup," said Joseph. "The process has started and the association will be announcing more details early in the New Year". This will be the Spice Boyz second appearance at the Continental Tournament after being eliminated in the group stage in its debut in 2008. Both Jamaica and Cuba, which edged Grenada in the Caribbean Cup,jumped in the rankings. Jamaica moved 24 places to 58th in the world and third behind the USA and Mexico in CONCACAF while Cuba jumped to 62nd and fifth respectively. Joseph said the key to Grenada's success at the international level will be early preparations and the "GFA will be throwing its resources to ensure the best team is available to represent the country". The next FIFA World Ranking will be released on January 12, 2011.
