SNELL HALL CAN EXPECT PLAYING FIELD THIS YEAR
St. Patrick West, Hon. Joseph Gilbert, has assured constituents that one of the commitments made to them will be fulfilled in 2012. “I am confident that the people of Snell Hall and surrounding areas will have their own playing field later this year,’’ Mr. Gilbert said on Wednesday, January 4. He made the comments after a pre-tenders meeting with prospective contractors who are vying for the playing field’s construction contract. The meeting was convened on the project site in Snell Hall, St. Patrick. According to Ministry of Works personnel, who facilitated the bidders' meeting, “all three pre-qualified contractors are expected to submit sealed bids for the project to the Ministry by the stipulated deadline of Monday, January 9, 2012’’. Mr. Gilbert, who is also Environment, Foreign Trade and Export Development Minister, has said that he “expects that a contract for the construction of the playing field could be awarded within a matter of a couple weeks.’’ The Snell Hall project is one of five community initiatives being funded by the Government of President Hugo Chavez of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela. The other projects include the Forde Bridge in St. Andrew, the St. George's Market redevelopment, the Tanteen Pavilion and Bleachers, and the Mon Tout Resource Centre. Approximately EC$10 million in grant funding has been made available by Venezuela to undertake the five projects.

St. Patrick West, Hon. Joseph Gilbert, as much as the youth of Snell Hall need their own play ground, I would like to challenge you on the issue of the release and employment of the members of the Gang of 17. Hon. Gilbert, as a politician and representative of the people, sir, you're fully aware of the law governing those who have committed murders, treasons and mass executions without cause, including that of a country's head of state and his cabinet members. Hon. Gilbert, you knew most of the victims of October 1983, especially the Bain Brothers, Jacklyn Creft. Sir, you knew the positive influences these people had in their communities. Hon. Gilbert, can you please explain to the Grenadian people why you and your NDC colleagues participated in the release and employment of those who ripped havoc on out people? Can you tell us, sir, why you failed to stand up for justice and ethical application of the law. I know you've lived abroad and saw the applications of the law in action. Why couldn't you have singled out yourself and say "NO" to the employment of Hudson Austin, Leon "Bogo" Cornwall, Cecil Prime and others into key government positions? Hon. Gilbert, can you tell the Grenadian people and your constituents which other regional country's government would have employed and financed the lifestyles of Strachan, Bernard Coard, Hudson Austin, Leon "Bogo" Cornwall, Cecil Prime, Ventura? Which other country within the Westerrn Hemisphere would allow Bernard Coard, Strachan and members of the public to voice their political opinions on national media? Hon. Gilbert, where is you principle and moral standings? Why pretend, Sir? Are you using the people's money to to build a play ground so that you can say something was done in order to guarantee your re-election? Please wake u St. Patricks. Let's not allow Gilbert to cover our eyes from the real issues at hand. And guess what, I am not an NNP affiliate, nor aligned to any political party. In fact, I would go after Keith Mitchell or anyone who have acted in similar fashion. This is the age of social, intellectual and revolutionary change against injustice, subjugation, distortion and suppression of the truth. No more physical violence. Just simply revelation of wrongs done by our NDC brothers and sisters to demonstrate that committing crimes against each other is beneficial. Gang 14 release and employment exemplifyy just that.
