PLANS TO REDEVELOP GRENVILLE MARKET |
|
|
The Government of Grenada is going ahead in earnest with its Grenville Market Redevelopment Project and already the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has earmarked a $100,000 (US) grant for assessing the feasibility of the area. The project will include institutional and managerial considerations.
Earlier this month representatives of the Ministry of Works, the CDB and the Consultant, Dillon Consulting Limited of Canada, met and held
discussions on the initiative.
Particular reference was made to the fact that both the Ministry of Health and the Environment and the Ministry of Agriculture have expressed concerns
that the abattoir is unfit, unsuitable and needs urgent relocation.
It was also noted the bus terminal would require relocation. The potential site identified for the bus terminal had a squatter settlement, which
must also be addressed.
Both the abattoir and the bus terminal are expected to be part of the feasibility study and project development exercise.
It is determined that with additional components, consultancy fees will increase the CDB grant by approximately $60,000 (US).
The CDB has indicated that it is willing to
provide a Project Development Faculty (PDF) loan to facilitate the extension, if required by Government.
In view of the Grenville Market Project and the possibility of relocating many facets of operations, consideration is being given to issues
related to the greater Grenville area.
