KNOWLEDGE BOWL 2012
Every second semester, Mac Donald College, like all other secondary schools (except the Grenada Seventh Day Adventist Comprehensive School) in Grenada vies for the championship trophy of the St. George’s University Knowledge Bowl. Each team consists of five persons and two coaches with three persons competing at a time.Fifth form students Tonya Boney, Camille Charles, Amonie Holas and Zaenia Jeffrey and fourth form student Nick Nicholas represented the school. The team was coached by Miss Katisha Daniel and Miss Evlyn Edwards under the guidance of Mr. Finley Jeffrey. Teams dip to determine opponents for each match and this year, this was done on Thursday 12,2012. Two two of the three players along with a coach journeyed to St. George’s to pick the school's opponent. One of the players picked and drew a number which symbolized that Happy Hill Secondary School will be its opponent for the first round of competition. The first round of competition was on Saturday February 4, 2012. All 5 players along with the coaches journeyed to FLOW’s studio in Dusty Highway, St. George’s. There were three matches on that day and the match MDC vs. HHSS was the first match of the day. Each match contains 3 sections which include Mathematics, Science and Technology, Arts and Humanities and General Knowledge. The first question of the match was a buzzer question. At the end of each round, except the third round, there is also a buzzer question. If the team answers correctly, it gains 5 points, but the opposite if the question is answered incorrectly. At the end of each round, coaches can raise challenges. Challenges however can only be raised on two conditions: they can challenge a fact or the rules of the competition. In the first round of the match MDC vs. HHSS,MDC buzzed in first and answered the question correctly, after that the questions were alternated. At the end of the first round, the score was 6-4 with MDC in the lead. The second round ended with the points 14-12 with MDC still in the lead. The third round which was the buzzer round ended with a score of 24-18 with MDC being victorious. This resulted in MDC going on to the second round of competition. On that same day all 10 teams dipped and MDC drew Westmorland Secondary School, last year’s winners as its opponents. The second match was held on February 18, 2012 and MDC lost by 3 points.
