HER MAJESTY'S PRISONS RECEIVE COMPUTERS
Commissioner of Her Majesty’s Prisons, Don Kenzie, this morning received two laptop computers from the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC). One of the computers will be used to improve the management of the prison’s Industry Department, which involves the agricultural projects and tailoring elements at the prison, while the other laptop will be used within the prison’s counseling services. Commissioner Mc Kenzie, in welcoming the Ambassador of the PRC to Grenada, His Excellency Xu Jianguo, to the prison compound, said he was delighted to have the computers, which will enable a more effective approach to planning and monitoring the sectors of production within the facility. “In this period of strengthening and improving our agricultural production and in our efforts to be self sufficient, these two computers will help us to effectively manage and monitor our targets. They will also help us to keep track and report on our successes and make adjustments in areas in which we have fallen short,” the Commissioner said. He noted that the prison intends to implement several new initiatives this year, including the resuscitation of furniture and mattress production, expand its block-making capabilities and its agricultural and livestock production. The Prisons will also undertake the development of a home-grown irrigation system that would store and utilize rain-water. The Ambassador, in making the presentation during a short ceremony, said he was pleased that his government was able to aid with the development of the facilities at the prison. “I'm honored to be invited to visit Her Majesty's Prison and get the first hand information about the facilities. I hope the laptops can make a small contribution to the development of the Prison and the just cause of rehabilitation,” the Ambassador said. The contribution will help in the transformation process designed to encourage inmates to become responsible, industrious and productive citizens through an expanded and diversified works programme.
