FARMERS IN CARRIACOU GETTING ASSISTANCE  
Hillsborough, Carriacou, April 20th, 2012-Twenty (20) farmers in Carriacou and Petite Martinique will be receiving assistance from a World Bank project funded by the Japanese Government. The project is geared towards assisting them to cope with weather fluctuations, the global financial crisis and food shortage. Project Manager Rawle Charles said that they will be given assistance in three (3) areas; harvesting and storing rain water for livestock, improvement of pastures and fencing. The water aspect of the project commenced; with the construction of a Ferro cement water tank on the property of farmer Adella Joseph. Livestock Consultant Pweil Mwasha and officers from the Ministry of Agriculture were on the island to oversee the commencement of the project. Head of the Agriculture Division Benson Patrice noted that this intervention will aid in the positive development of agriculture on the island. Just about a month ago, the Agriculture Division embarked on a livestock census which is intended will assist in the proper planning and execution of extension services.
