GRENADA NATIONAL FLAG TO BE FLOWN ON EMPIRE STATE BUILD...
The National Flag of Grenada will be, for the first time, flown on the Empire State Building in New York City. This recognition was realized through the initiative of Mr. Derek Ventour, a proud son of Grenada who is the President and CEO of Dee Vee International Productions and a cultural promoter in New York. Ventour held discussions with the management of the Empire State Building and was able to convince them to fly Grenada’s National Flag from the 6th floor in front of the building for the period February 6 to 8, 2004 in commemoration of Grenada’s 30th Independence Anniversary. The Empire State Building is a New York City and National Historic Landmark, which soars more than a quarter of a mile into the atmosphere above the heart of Manhattan. The building is one of New York’s main tourist attractions, which offers a variety of activities for visitors. In commemoration of the 30th (Pearl) Anniversary of Grenada’s Independence, a number of activities have been planned for the Grenadian Community in New York. The 2004 Independence Committee began with a Youth Programme on Saturday January 31, an Ecumenical Church Service on Sunday 1st February, and will culminate with the Annual Awards, Dinner and Dance to be held on Saturday 7th February 2004. On Sunday 8th February, Dee Vee International Productions will be presenting “A tribute to Our Heroes” Calypso/Soca Music Awards at the Wingate High School with performances from Black Wizard, Ajamu, Fyin’ Turkey, Inspector, Lord Slim, Flyn’ Cloud and Val Adams.
