MINITSER QUARLESS REAFFIRMS GOVERNMENT COMMITMENT  
Minister for Social Development Hon. Sylvester Quarless has reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to the provision of social services to vulnerable persons within the tri island state. Speaking at the recent sitting of Parliament Minister for Social Development, Hon. Sylvester Quarless, who is also the Parliamentary representative for St. Andrew South West pointed out that “3.2 percent of Grenada’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which is the equivalent to about 10 percent of the National Budget is currently channeled into safety net programmes which benefit the people of Grenada. He compared Grenada’s spending on safety net programmes to that done in the Region which average in the region of 2.3 percent. Minister Quarless informed the sitting of the House that his Government was currently pursuing 20 safety net programme. These include: school books and uniform, energy for the poor, and an ambitious legislative agenda which contained laws pertaining to domestic violence, child protection and adoption, child protection authority, sexual assault and public assistance. In the words of the Minister “his ministry had done much to cushion the effects that the economic situation is having on our country.” He also noted that the Government, of the National Democratic Congress came into office with a manifesto which outlined with some of the things intended to do and they have achieved it despite some of the challenges that they have
