St. George’s Grenada June 4, 2012: Last Tuesday a check in the sum of EC$1,000.00 was presented to a victim of domestic violence, Ms. Yvonne Felix; mother of three young children of Windsor Forest , St. David’s; who was brutally stabbed and her house burnt, by her then male partner. The Women’s Arm of the NNP held a fund Raiser on Friday March 2nd at the Party Headquarters at Mt. Helicon ; with the primary aim of assisting Ms. Felix. The event took the form of a social, with eats and drinks on sale, all arranged and executed by members of the Women’s Arm. Ms. Shirmaine White, assistant Chairperson of the Women’s Arm, when presenting the check to Ms. Felix stated “it is time that women took a stand against domestic violence and support and defend other women, when there is the opportunity to do so.” Ms. White further stated that the Women’s Arm of the NNP is prepared to work with and support all women across the tri-island state of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique, regardless of perceived political affiliation; especially in this very challenging economic and social climate. An account has been established at L.A Purcell for Ms. Felix, who is still without a home; to aid her is providing shelter for her family. Any member of the community who will like to assist Ms. Felix can go to LA Purcell and make a contribution to that account. The Women’s arm will like to thank the corporate community and other private citizens, who stepped forward and contributed towards the fund raiser. They will also like to thank the persons who came out and patronized the event; special thanks to Mr. Gabriel Henry, the Political Leader Dr Keith Mitchell and Executive of the NNP and the taxi drivers.

Pastor Garraway like you i would also like to say well done to these NNP ladies for the kind deeds in their donation to this most unfortunate lady and her family ,but please pastor please do not make this a political thing for you of all should remember that here in Grenada we have a long history of domestic violence and sexual abuse by men against both women and children alike and nothing much is being done by government past and present to rid our country of such filty habits so please pastor what these ladies of the NNP has done is good but dont make political song and dance about it and instead when you get on your pulpit preach the word of non violence against families within families. one love.
