St. George’s Grenada June 19, 2012: The New National Party wishes to place on record to the Grenadian public , the following statement regarding the Prime Minister’s attempt at presenting a “ declaration of source of funds “ disclosure , on the New Today newspaper dated 08th.July , in the matter of funds finding its way into the private and personal account of the Hon. Tillman Thomas , in his capacity as Prime Minister of Grenada.
· The Political Leader of the New National Party , Dr.the rt.Hon.Keith Mitchell has stated publicly that his attorneys are reviewing evidence of wrong doing on the part of Prime Minister Hon.Tillman Thomas in the matter of funds deposited to his account from a secret Donor .
· Apart from the Prime Minister finally confirming to the Nation that he received almost five months ago the sum of Usd50,000.00 from a secret Donor , the Prime Minister has misused the office of Prime Minister by causing himself to be used as a conduit to financially satisfy the wishes or demands of a third party .
· The actions of the Prime Minister has therefore brought the office into serious disrepute to which the laws of Grenada must take its appropriate course. No one is above the law as the Prime Minister himself espouses from time to time under the charade of “ good governance “.
· When the Prime Minister signed the “ declaration” he did so with the full knowledge that he was signing as the rime Minister , as attested to in the second column of the “ declaration “ which the Prime Minister himself has confirmed that this is indeed his “ declaration “ .
· The Prime Minister claimed that this donation was from a “ friend of Grenada “, therefore, can one assume that those funds were intended for the Government’s consolidated fund rather than his private account.
· Could the Prime Minister also tell the Nation if this donation was discussed in the Cabinet and if the normal approval was consented to, so that he may act in the manner which he did.
· Could the Prime Minister tell the Nation if the gift from this “ friend of Grenada “ had a QUID PRO QUO (this for that or something for something ) arrangement attached with it .
· Does the Prime Minister recalls that he promised the Nation that “ there shall be no secret deals “ under his watch and proceeded to invite the public to bring to his attention and known form of wrong doing in his Government so that he will “ deal with them “ .
· Does the Prime Minister , being a lawyer in his previous profession, knows that he may have violated and broken the laws of Grenada .
· Does the Prime Minister knows that the “ Integrity in public life Act of 2007 clearly states in section 47- 1 (a) that , quote “ a person in public life shall not accept any gift or reward from any person as an inducement for anything official to be done by him or her “ unquote.
· Does the Prime Minister knows that his actions shows a total lack of “ Transparency , Accountability and good Governance “.

It must be noted here that the Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas is a trained Lawyer, so for one thing he knows or suppose to know the laws but more than that he made a pledge to the nation that his Government will be one that is transparent, Unfortunately, there was no transparency in this transaction. What is even very shameful at this time the director of the Government Information Service (GIS) Mr. Ray Roberts is on the media ignoring the fact that the PM did admit that he received money and is calling on me to present the evidence. I will not respond to him to give credit to his diatribe. What I was expecting of Mr. Roberts, was a commitment to the values of honesty and integrity. He of all persons would have tried to be an example to the children who look up to the leaders of the land as role models. BTW gabe, the PM gave his private bank account to the donor. Therefore his action was premeditated and deliberate. However, I am hoping and I guess you are to that this does not turn out to be a nightmare for the country.

Pastor greetings to you ,pastor i have recently observed a change of language (presentation) in your posting and may i say i welcome such change and to also agree with you re the behaviour pattens of some of our politicans be they prime ministers or ministers and their code of conduct while in the highest office of Government and as many of my fellow posters can note quote i have been a stern critic of Dr Mitchell and his brand of political /financial money dealing when he was leader of the then nnp government and yes it is sad to say that the current leader off the NDC PM Thomas and some of his ministers may have made a misguided judgement in the way this money was allowed to find its way into his th PM personell account for once this was outed as was done by the opposition leader political capital was there for the taking by Mitchell and his dirt dealing gangs and here is where i agree with you that it is high time our politicans come clean on all political donation that is made to parties and the donatees names be made public where possible to save our country from being seen to be accepting monies from all type dodgy unacceptable persons in other words they the givers must be vetted for tranparency and accountability .

Good comment stallion. It is one thing to call Dr Mitchell a crook on an allegation, but this is no allegation Hon. Tillman Thomas admitted that he received US 50000 into his personal bank account on January 4th 2012. Not until Dr Mitchell made the disclosure 5 months later the Prime Minister who denied receiving money before then admitted. What I hope we are not promoting that if Dr Mitchell was accused of receiving money in a briefcase it is okey for the PM to receive money from an unnamed donor. Two wrongs can never be right. BTW whats if this donor end up to be a drug lord? We should always put Grenada first.

i agree with everything you said gabe.keith mitchell is a con artist himself,although at times i agree with questions he asked about the prime minister.but whatever we may think of keith,that doesn't take away from the fact that tillman himself has some explaining to do.the questions raised by keith are legitimate questions.we are calling on the prime minister to come forward and tell us exactly when he received the funds and whom knew about it.there are too much questions to be answered.he campaigned on transparency and accountability.please stand up prime minister and come clean.
