GRENADA LAUNCHES TENDER FOR WORLD CLASS REPLACEMENT GEN...
The Government of Grenada is officially launching the international tender process to identify a partner for the delivery of the new Grenada General Hospital, to replace the existing St. George’s General Hospital. The request for qualified bidders was issued today on the government website (www.gov.gd). The replacement hospital will provide Grenadians a world class public healthcare facility, with a sustainable and clinically appropriate design that allows for a dramatically higher quality of care. Improved quality of care will be additionally ensured by an initiative to reconfigure the way in which public clinical services are managed and delivered. This “Clinical Transition Plan” will be implemented by the Ministry of Health with the support of IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, which is supporting the government throughout this process as lead transaction advisor. IFC brings international expertise and best practices to ensure the best possible outcome for the Government. IFC is supported by Mott MacDonald (UK) as technical advisors and Heenan Blaikie (Canada) as legal advisors, both with significant experience in similar hospital PPP projects. It is intended that the hospital will also benefit from a partnership with St. George’s University (SGU). With access to a world class hospital, SGU will be able to expand its clinical teaching program in Grenada, thereby strengthening its offer. The hospital will benefit from the rigor and discipline required for and resulting from a teaching hospital. The hospital will also allow Grenada to position itself as a destination for medical tourism through its world class facility and care. The hospital will be designed so that it can expand easily to meet future growth in demand for medical tourism. Hospital Description The hospital will have 180 general acute public patient beds and 14 single/private rooms, 4 of which will be in a separate private ward for private patients and medical tourism patients. The scope of services provided at hospital will encompass the following: Internal medicine Renal dialysis Medical oncology General surgery Neonatology Vascular surgery Trauma and orthopedics Pediatric medicine Urology Ophthalmology Cardiology Plastic surgery Acute psychiatry Endocrinology Ear, nose and throat Obstetrics and gynecology Hematology Communicable diseases Midwifery Renal medicine Chemotherapy day services Tender Process The tender process encompasses the current period of prequalification, followed by the issuance of the Request for Proposals, the receipt of proposals, their evaluation and finally the award of the contract to a winning bidder. This process is expected to be completed by the end of the first quarter of 2013. Construction of the new hospital will begin shortly thereafter. About IFC IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector. IFC helps developing countries achieve sustainable growth by financing investment, providing advisory services to businesses and governments, and mobilizing capital in the international financial markets. It is so good to hear such good news. This has been my prayer for many, many years. I know many of my country men have not returned home after they retired including myself, because of the medical condition in our island. I hope those who are priviliged and can help will do so and the rest of us can continue to lift this project up to the Good Lord for His blessings. Let's keep a very positive attitude towards this adventure. May God bless everyone involved.

how will this project affect the national debt. what is the projected cost. for every dollar that the developing world receives in grants they pays back 13 dolllars in interests. can we get some tranparency on this project please. the misconception is that the north helps the south, the truth is the south pays for the northern countries development through payments of interest to the north. interest, just follow the flow of money and work it out.

As a fellow Grenadian, and returnee from the U.S I thank God for such great news every day I think of the present conditions in the hospital My husband spent many years abroad and returned back to his homeland to enjoy his retirenment. He loved and enjoyed his home, that was his hearts desire. He passed away a year ago at the General hospital. Every day I think of the medical condition and care he recieved before he departed this life and it leave me with so many questions, as well as a bitter taste. I will never compare Grenada to the United States. Its impossibe for any one to do so. But, It is extremely important for a patient and his or her family to know that the medical team and staff has their best interest at heart. as a patient care provider it should not be a pay check but gratification knowing and seeing positive outcome. Thanks a lot for great news.

Three cheers to thoes bodies who is taxed in getting this project off the ground and i am praying that the good lord will guide them in good judgement and grenadians and visitors to our shore will see this day come when this hospital project gets off the ground and for the benifit off all our people north, south, east, west,we will all have access to a first class medical hospital because for too long our people were treated to a second class medical care/hospital built by the sea as a show piece by th previour administration, and i call upon every grenadian to rally round and support such good news.
