CUSTOMS OFFICER PRESENTED WITH OZONE DEPLETING SUBSTANC...
The Grenada Customs and Excise Division is the recipient of one hundred and twenty five (125) Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) Quick Reference Cards. The cards contain information on the list of ODSs imported into Grenada with their corresponding 2007 and 2012 Harmonised System (HS) Codes. This initiative is intended to assist customs officers in identifying and correctly classifying ODS imported into the country, to facilitate the data reporting process. The cards were presented to the Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Carlyle Felix by National Ozone Officer, Mr. Leslie Smith, at Customs House on Tuesday, July 17th, 2012. The presentation of the cards is part of a regional initiative undertaken by Ozone Officers of the English Speaking Caribbean and Haiti Network. Grenada, being a Party to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer since 1993, is required to report data on imports of ODS to the Multi-lateral Fund and Ozone Secretariats on an annual basis. Approximately one hundred customs officers have already been trained by the National Ozone Unit (NOU) under the Terminal Phase-out Management Plan (TPMP) for chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) in Control and Monitoring of Trade in Ozone depleting Substances. These officers would be the first recipients of the cards. During the presentation of the cards, Mr. Felix expressed his appreciation on behalf of the Customs Department and indicated that the cards will work well with the recently implemented ASYCUDA World System. Mr. Smith reassured the Comptroller of the NOUs intention to continue to provide additional support to Customs in the form of training and provision of equipment under the Hydrochlorofluorocarbons Phase out Management Plan (HPMP) for Grenada that was approved in December 2010 and is already in its implementation phases. The National Ozone Unit intends to make a similar presentation to the Grenada Customs Brokers Association.
