GRENADA GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCES TAX REDUCTION ON BASIC CON...
As promised in the 2004 Budget, the General Consumption Tax (GCT) on twenty selected items has been reduced as of March 1 2004. The revised list reflects suggestions that emerged after the presentation of the 2004 Budget. For example, Orange Juice has been removed from the list. The Government of Grenada is keen to ensure that these reductions are passed on to the consumer. As a first step, the margin on these items will be fixed to minimize the possibility of profiteering. Moreover, the Central Statistical Office will publish the prices of these items the 15th of every month. The affected items are: Crackers, Rice, Macaroni, Sausages, Corned Beef, Luncheon Meat, Salami, Ham and Cuts thereof, Canned Tuna, Fresh Butter, Salted Butter, Vegetable Oils, Tomato Ketchup (Caricom and NoNCaricom), Laundry Detergent, Bleaches, Toilet Disinfectant, Batteries, Mosquito Coils/Insecticides in Packages for Retail, Toilet Soap, Toothpaste.
