WINDIES TEAM MANAGER, RICKY SKERRITT, QUITS.
West Indies team manager Ricky Skerritt has quit, blaming himself for the team's on- and off-field shortcomings. Skerritt said he made the decision to resign immediately after the first Test in Jamaica and informed the WICB CEO, Roger Brathwaite, of his decision on Saturday March 20th. An official letter of resignation was also sent to WICB president Teddy Griffith on Sunday. "Events following the first Test match in Jamaica have led me to review my role as manager," Skerritt explained. "I regret that, despite my best efforts, I have been unable to instill in the entire team the fullest understanding of their obligations on and off the field to the people of the West Indies." Skerritt emphasized his continued commitment to West Indies cricket and his willingness to support whoever succeeds him to ensure a smooth transition. In accordance with the terms of his contract Skerritt's resignation will take effect from the end of June 2004. The Kittitian Skerritt, who inked a two-year contract extension last year, was appointed as manager in March 2000.
