CONCERNS OVER GRENADA'S ENERGY POLICY
ST. GEORGE'S, GRENADA: There is worry in St George's that Grenada's offshore oil and gas resources could end up in catastrophe as did the islands flopped offshore financial sector. And two local lawyers have said they will call the people out into the streets to protests of the Keith Mitchell Administration does not show signs of handling the country's "last frontier for economic development". Law of the Seas expert Anselm Clouden and Constitutional Lawyer Dr Francis Alexis held a news conference Wednesday to voice their concerns over an announcement by Grenada's energy minister that they are in discussions with two Russian companies regarding exploration rights. Alexis and Clouden have vowed that they will not sit idly by while the Keith Mitchell Administration puts the cart before the horse. Clouden said Government is moving too fast without any clear idea of what kinds of resources and how much of it belongs to Grenada and the extent of the country's territorial claims. Alexis is also concerned about what he said are the geo-political implications of Grenada side-lining a US company in favor of Russian companies. SOURCE: CARIBUPDATE.COM
